To be the best poker player you need to….know your poker

October 29, 2009

I want to be the best poker player that i can be. To be the best poker player i can be, what can i do to achieve this goal? Players like Phil Hellmuth, Phil Ivey and Gus Hanson have that regular poker players like me dont have? After some carefull consideration i have realised that its not just that the odds and percentages knowledge that give them an advantage but its the depth of their poker game knowledge and variety that gives them the ultimate edge.

Can you call yourself a poker player if you dont know, understand or play the other types of poker? My quest is to cover the basics of all the types of poker and practice them. So below i will add some links to the rules and concepts of all the poker game types.

  1. Texas Holdem
  2. Seven Card Draw
  3. Red Dog Poker
  4. Razz
  5. Omaha
  6. Five Card Poker
  7. Pai Gow
  8. Crazy Pineapple Poker

Got something to say?

Poker is a family of card games that share betting rules and usually hand rankings. Poker games differ in the way the cards are dealt, formation of hands, whether the high or low hand wins the pot , limits on bets and how many rounds of betting are allowed. The action always proceeds to the left. Each player in turn must either match the maximum previous bet or fold, losing the amount bet so far and all further interest in the hand. A player who matches a bet may also raise, increasing the bet. The betting round ends when all players have either matched the last bet or folded. If all but one player fold on any round, the remaining player collects the pot without showing his hand. If more than one player remains in contention after the final betting round, the hands are shown and the winning hand takes the pot.
