South Africa’s Online Poker Tournament Launched

Poker Shuffle is kicking off our 1st online poker tournament in association with winner.com. This new and exciting series of online poker events will be open to all Poker Shuffle visitors, subscribers from South Africa and around the world.

The No Limit Texas Hold’em tournament will be a freeze-out event with no buy-in. This fantastic freeroll will have an amazing  guaranteed prize pool of $50.00 with the top 5 players getting a  share.

This event will kick off with on Tuesday, 23 March 2010, at 17h45 GMT which is about 19h45 South African time. This will be followed by another freeroll the following week. The next series of events will be a low buy-in tournament.

Poker Celibacy- The key to my recent success

I’m sure most of you have realized that i have slowed down a lot with my poker posts. The main reason is that i haven’t really played much poker. Apart from the social league, it has been a quiet poker year for me.

Today, i played my first freeroll in well over a month on the Pigg’s. It started off fairly well and i quickly found my grove, my game has improved a lot over the past few months and it seems that my new approach and poker ethos is working. Anyway, i slogged it out in the hold’em tournament and managed a win.

I pocketed a nice amount of R350 ( about $35) which boosts my 2010 freeroll earnings to $61.95. Not bad considering i haven’t loaded any accounts with my own money!!!

Feeling in great poker shape, I took R80 from my winnings and played in the R5000 Guaranteed Tournament on the Pigg’s and played a similar game, applying the tactics i have been training for and WHAM… a top 10 finish in 7th with a nice R776.00 purse( No re-buys or add-on’s) and my freeroll earnings explodes to $141.95.

The key to my success at online poker. Poker Celibacy!!! Yes, you heard correctly! I have taken a well deserved break and feeling fresh, fresh enough to pick up from where i left off! I will continue to play once or twice a week but not more and concentrate on quality online poker sessions rather than long innings!

Tight-Passive A tight-passive players don't raise or call unless they have a strong hand. This type of player is normally best suited for limit Texas Holdem poker and don't take risks. If a tight passive player calls your raise you have better hope that you have a hand and a half. The great thing about playing against a tight-passive is that when you have have a killer hand and they think they have the best hand-you can get away with murder. Loose-Passive Loose passive players are also known as "calling stations". They call any bet you place and it's best to avoid bluffing these players. They'll very seldom fold once they've seen the flop and they tend to get lucky on the turn and the river. Tight-Aggressive These players will only bluff occasionally. They only play good hands and once they've got that hand they'll bet aggressively. Beware when this player raises he could end up taking a huge chunk out of your stack. This player bluffs now and then and tend to not bluff at the right time. Loose-Aggressive Some of the most famous poker players are loose aggressive. These players have no problem going "all-in", but the best loose-aggressive players will mix up their aggressive and passive play, it's hard to read their hands. They go all-in with a pair of aces or just a simple 7, 3. These are the high-rollers of Texas Hold em poker.
